Escaping The Dreaded Overthinking Trap

By Max Jancar | Published: October 14, 2024 | 2 Minute Read

As part of my newsletter, The Breakthrough Letter, every week I send out a short email with one idea, one suggestion, and one resource to help you break through your breakup and create a new possibility for love, either with your ex or someone new.

Here’s this week’s edition. Enjoy.

Today’s Idea:

There’s an old story about a man who climbed a mountain to ask a wise sage about the nature of the world. The sage explained that the world rests on the back of a giant elephant, which in turn stands on a turtle. When the man asked what the turtle stands on, the sage replied, “It’s turtles all the way down.”

In other words, you can dig deeper and deeper into the reasons behind your breakup, but at some point, you’re just piling on more questions and doubts without getting any closer to peace or resolution.

Today’s Suggestion:

Instead of getting caught up in endless analysis, try accepting that some things just are. They happened, and no amount of thinking can change the past. So focus on what you can control now — your actions, your growth, and your healing.

This week, whenever you find yourself spiraling into overthinking, take a deep breath and remind yourself: “It’s turtles all the way down.” Then, shift your attention to something productive or positive that you can do in the present moment.

Today’s Resource:

How To Stop Obsessing Over Your Ex: 12 Solutions For Success — an article filled with practical tips and mindset shifts that can help you break free from the loop of overanalysis and start focusing on your own path forward.

As always, feel free to reply to this email and let me know what you think. While I can’t respond to everyone, I do read everything.

Until next time,

Max Jancar
