As part of my newsletter, The Breakthrough Letter, every week I send out a short email with one idea, one suggestion, and one resource to help you break through your breakup and create a new possibility for love, either with your ex or someone new.
Here’s this week’s edition. Enjoy.
Today’s Idea:
When life bitchslaps you with a nasty breakup, it’s so easy to go into full panic mode, frantically grabbing at anything that might make you feel better. Both the good and the bad, all from excessive booze and cheap hookers to constant therapy sessions and never-ending reading lists of self-help books.
But here’s the thing: the harder you chase happiness, the more it runs away from you, sinking you deeper and deeper into unhappiness.
So what the fuck can you do?
Here’s one thing you can try…
Today’s Suggestion:
… For 5-10 minutes today — and time yourself! — stop trying to make yourself happy. That’s it.
I know breakups suck harder than Mia Khalifa in her prime, but try to sit with your pain. Try to face the ugliness and longing and other bullshit AND not attempt to control or fix or evade it.
Generally, this is one way people eventually process a breakup and get better. Reply to this email and let me know how it went for you.
Today’s Resource:
Don’t Chase Happiness After A Breakup (Do This Instead) — learn why stopping the chase for immediate relief and the likes is actually the faster path to real healing, plus five practical solutions for accepting pain instead of fighting it.
As always, feel free to reply to this email and let me know what you think. I’ll do my best to get back to you promptly.
Until next time,
Max Jancar
